Who We Are

About Us

It all started with a spot of Rhodesian sanctions-busting! Terry Pace, the late founder of Second Chance, had customers up there who knew he was a golfer and had access to the second-hand golf ball market. His cross-border clients used to beg him to slip golf balls into their shipments. He did, but eventually, his supply outstripped their demand and so his wife and partner Sonia, Second Chance was opened in Durban North.

The reason Second Chance stands out from the crowd is the grading system which was devised from the start, in 1995. The previously-owned balls are graded not only by quality and cost but crucially, also by brand. “Being a golfer gave me a big advantage,” said Terry. “I know what I want in a box of balls: consistency. Which is why I firmly believe in keeping only one brand of ball in your bag for each round; if nothing else, this will help your putting. Every brand reacts differently off your putter blade. Golf is testing enough without adding to the variable.” Not even the Florida, US Companies which dominate this market niche internationally offer this service.
